ABOUT HAYLEY YASMIN

Hi I’m Hayley and I live on the beautiful Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. I am a portrait photographer who has studied photography and digital art for the past three years, and I have fallen in love with it. I enjoy taking portrait photography using high-key and low-key lighting to create a story behind each photo and person. Being able to capture and save memories for other people is such an important part of why I love portrait photography. 

 

I chose to study digital art due to my older sister doing it when she was my age, as she also loved it while focusing on portrait photography herself. I have followed in my sister's footsteps and chosen to focus on portrait photography just as she did. I loved watching her grow and enjoy photography, she had such a creative mind in her portrait photography and she chose different places to take photos and how to model her clients. 

 

While doing photography for the past 3 years I have tried many different types of photography styles and learnt many important skills to be a successful photographer. Learning different techniques and posing skills, as well as learning how to edit photos. While trying the different styles of photography I found that portrait photography has been my most successful and enjoyable. Within portrait photography, finding what I wanted to focus on was easy, high and low-key lighting photography was by far my favorite, the way I can position my clients and the lights to change the way the shadows appear is magical. By having a dark room with natural lighting coming in and directly hitting the clients hair or face creates a spark and a perfect moment to capture. The story it can tell and how it can make a photo have meaning is very powerful, photography is something I do that helps me express myself. It's my break from the real world, not worrying about anything else but the lighting of the photo. 

 

Using different lighting techniques to capture moments and tell a story is my favorite part about photography, one single picture can tell you so much about someone's life. Finding inspiration in high and low key lighting photography I came across Helen Whittles photography and Kirens photography. Both experts in high and low-key lighting. Seeing their low-key lighting photos and how impacting they are has inspired me to focus on portrait low-key lighting photography. Portrait photography is my main focus as I love working with people and families, being able to create dramatic and impacting portrait photos using different lighting to tell stories of clients is why I do photography.
